Michael T. ĚTomĚ Deren, 74, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 5:00 a.m., Friday, February 6, 2009, in his home. He was born on August 15, 1934 in South Bend to Michael J. and Victoria (Oleksy) Deren and was a lifelong resident. He spent his working life in sales and was retired. On October 30, 1965 in St. Adalbert Church, he married Marcia P. Plencner, who survives. Other survivors include his son Jim (Tania) Deren of South Bend, IN; his granddaughter Abby; two sisters, Harriet Lehner of Granger, IN and Rosemary Miholich of Mishawaka, IN; one brother, John Deren of South Bend, IN; and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 11, 2009 in Holy Cross Church. Friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive. Michael was a member of Holy Cross Parish. He was a Korean War Army Veteran and a member of the American Legion Post 284. He was a former member of MIPOA (Michiana Income Property Owners Association) and a former coach at Chet Waggoner Little League. He enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter Abby. Michael also spent alot of time reading and studying the Bible. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Cross Parish or to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
