Memorial Service: 3:00 PM Saturday, March 28, 2009 at the Burlington Gym

Michael Edward Weddle , 62, of Burlington, died at 5:30 AM Thursday, March 5, 2009, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City. Born March 16, 1946, in Galesburg, IL, he was the son of Robert and Kathryn Kaye Schunick Weddle. On April 16, 1966, he married Eileen Ertz. They later divorced. On March 1, 2003, he married Roberta Diewold in Nokomis, FL. Mr. Weddle had been a truck driver for Roadway Express before working as a business agent for Teamsters 218 and then for Shipley Construction. He was a 1964 graduate of Burlington Notre Dame High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving as a diesel mechanic while stationed in Norfolk, VA. He was of the Catholic faith. He was a member of AMVETS, and the Burlington Gym. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. He enjoyed golfing, boating, and camping. Survivors include his wife, Roberta; his father and stepmother, Robert and Jean Weddle of Burlington; three daughters, Deb Pence of West Burlington; Chris (Jared) Hicks of Marion; Michele (Addison) Jensen of Grinnell; six grandchildren; two sisters, Paula Brown of Alabama and Karen Lancaster of Texas; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and his grandparents. As per the request of Mr. Weddle, cremation has been accorded. The Celebration of Life Service for Mike will be 3:00 PM Saturday, March 28, 2009, at the Burlington Gym. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. A memorial has been established. The Hass-Thielen Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements.
