South Newfane, VT- Michelle Darling, 13, of Dover Road was rejoined with God on Sunday, July 24, 2011 at Galway Lake, New York following an accident. Michelle was born in Brattleboro on August 19, 1997, the daughter of Alan Darling and Lucie Morissette Michelle lived her entire life in South Newfane, and was a high honor student, about to begin her eighth grade year, at Leland & Gray Junior High School. Michelle's biggest love was fantasy; she was an avid reader of contemporary classics such as Harry Potter and Cat Warriors to more obscure titles of far-off, imaginary lands. She also wrote a book of poems (as yet unpublished). Michelle was a member of the Brattleboro Gymnastics Team since she was four years old, and qualified for the Vermont State Gymnastics Meet for the last three years. She was a lover of all animals, especially all types of cats, domestic and wild; she was passionate about protecting endangered species. Michelle had a bubbly personality and brought joy to her family and all those around her. Her favorite place was the family's camp on Galway Lake, where she would kayak, swim, and make sure that the fish near the dock were fed breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. She was fluent in English and French, and also mastered sign language, which she used to communicate with her sister during large group events in which they were not allowed to speak. Besides her parents, survivors include: her brother Luke Darling and her sister Genevieve Darling both at home; cousins Colin and Kiley Owen, her aunt Cathlin Darling-Owen and her uncle Doug Owen of Dummerston; her maternal grandmother, Madeleine Morisssette, uncle Jean Morissette and aunt, Lise Morissette, of Stoke, Quebec; her uncle Marcel Morissette, of Boucherville, Quebec; paternal grandparents Dr. Roy Darling and Elizabeth Darling of Charlton, New York; her aunt, Lisa Darling, of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and her uncle, Cary Darling, of Boulder, Colorado. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:00 A.M. at Saint Michael's Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Richard O'Donnell, pastor, celebrant. A reception will follow the Mass to be held in Rand Hall at Saint Michael's School. Burial will take place in South Wardsboro Cemetery at a later date. Friends are invited to call at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home on Sunday from 6 to 9 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the National Wildlife Federation, 11100 Wildlife Center Drive, Reston, VA 20190-5362, Attn: Pattie Beattie; Phone: (703) 438-6000; (online link: https://secure.nwf.org/support/memorial.cfm).
