Mrs. Mildred A. (Young) Austin, a lifelong Melrose resident, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, December 15, 2011, at the age of 92.
Mildred was born on December 10, 1919 in Haverhill, a daughter of the late Merton P. and Florence C. (Flanders) Young. Raised in Melrose, she graduated from Melrose High School with the Class of 1937. She served her country proudly during WWII in the US Army. For many years she worked as a stenographer at First National Bank of Boston. She married Ralph S. Austin on March 19, 1949 whom she met while working. A devoted family woman, she loved cooking spaghetti and macaroni and cheese for her son and late husband. She was a longtime member of the Green Street Baptist Church.
Mildred was the beloved wife of the late Ralph S. Austin with whom she shared 52 years of marriage. She is survived by her devoted and loving son Stephen G. Austin of Melrose.
Relatives and friends will honor and remember Mildred's life by gathering for visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Sunday, December 18 from 2-4 PM and again on Monday afternoon where her Funeral Service will be celebrated at 12:30 PM. Interment with military honors presented by US Army in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
