Funeral services for Mildred Alston, 87, of Caldwell, are set for 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 26, 2010, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Caldwell, with Pastor Rick Mitchell officiating. Interment will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday at the Point Enterprise Cemetery in Mexia, Texas under the care and direction of Strickland Funeral Home of Caldwell. A visitation is scheduled from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 25, also at Strickland Funeral Home of Caldwell. Mrs. Alston passed away October 22, 2010, at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Caldwell. Pallbearers will be Steve Martin, Greg Martin, David Booker, Tom Tone, Steve Yelldell, and Kenny Johnson. Mildred was born December 4, 1922, in Mexia, Texas to Lela Edna Teer and Jonnie Joseph Dokupil. She married John Alston, Sr. on May 31, 1943 in Thornton, Texas. She was a member of the Temple Baptist Church in Mexia for many years and later the Calvary Baptist Church in Caldwell. Mildred was a dedicated servant of the Lord. She had a passion for teaching and for 63 years taught children's classes at her church. She also taught at the Mexia State School, where she took great pride and satisfaction in helping to teach the very special residents of the school. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Mildred is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, John Alston Jr. and his wife Karen of Caldwell, a daughter Ruth Tovar of Austin, Texas, and six grandchildren, Paige Alston, Krystle Alston Tone, David Booker, Larrianne Johnson, Brandi Booker, seven great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 3 sisters, Wanda Jean Dokupil Martin, Norouida Dokupil Clancy, Lela Marjorie Dokupil Desmond, two brothers, Harold and Raymond Dokupil, and three grandchildren, Billy George Morgan, Mary Kay Morgan, and JamieWayne Morgan. Family suggests memorials to the Calvary Baptist Church, Caldwell or to the charity of your choice.
