Mildred Burns was born on October 1, 1922 in Elkhorn, West Virginia, to the late Grace and McKinley Haskins. She was a resident of North Edison Gardens. Mildred was very active in the community. She was President of the tenant association for 30 years and did a lot of community service. Mrs. Burns had been employed as a Dietician at Muhlenburg Hospital in Plainfield, New Jersey for 10 years before she retired. She was a former member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Edison, New Jersey. Mildred Burns departed this life on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at her North Edison home at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Burns, two daughters, Barbara Ann and Jeanette Burns, one sister, Mary Haskins, one brother-in-law, John Drew, three nieces, Barbara Haskins, Toni Drew, Stephanie Haskins, two granddaughters, Shawn Brookins and Lakeisha Burns. Mildred leaves to cherish her memories, her children, Henrietta, Hattie, Shirley, Billy, Nadine, Tommy, Kathryn, Marilyn, Etta and Carol (Tyrone); one sister, Julia Drew; one brother, Clarence Haskins; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; four nieces, Sheryl, Michelle, Stephanie and Renee; four nephews, John Drew, Jr., Michael James, Noel and Robert; cousins, other relatives and friends.
