Mildred "Aunt Millie" Devilbiss Hesson, 93, formerly of New Windsor, died Thursday, August 25, 2011 at Carroll Lutheran Village Health Care Center. Born Nov. 30, 1917 in Sams Creek, she was the daughter of the late Milton E. and Leah Lindsay Devilbiss. She was the wife of John William Hesson, who died in 1989. Mrs. Hesson was formerly employed for many years at Roop's Grocery, New Windsor. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, New Windsor, where she was a member of the former Faithful Band Sunday School Class. She was also a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the New Windsor Volunteer Fire Company and the Drill Team, and the New Windsor Homemakers Club. She enjoyed gardening and was a loving caretaker and nurturer of her family. Surviving are six nephews, Don Ludke and wife Jennie, Richard Ludke and wife Kathy, Douglas Ludke, Robert "Corky" Devilbiss and wife Donna, Roland "Bunk" Devilbiss, and Dickie Hesson; one niece, Joan H. Myers and husband Jim; sister-in-law, Olivia Devilbiss; and numerous great nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Kitty Baile Brand and a brother, M. Howard Devilbiss. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Aug. 30 at 11:00 a.m. at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor, with Rev. Helen Armiger, her pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Pipe Creek Cemetery, near Linwood. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 250, New Windsor, MD 21776.
