Mildred Taylor McCord Smith, 82, of Abbeville died Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at the Abbeville Nursing Home. She was born in Greenville County to the late Haskell Dewey and Leona Couch Brown Taylor. Mrs. Smith was twice married, first to the late Godfrey McCord, then to the late Jewell Willis Smith. She was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Smith was a loving and compassionate woman who especially loved helping those who were less fortunate. In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Brown and Ansel Brown and two grandchildren. Mrs. Smith is survived by her sons, Walter H. McCord, of Calhoun Falls, Harold G. McCord of Mauldin, Sam E. McCord of Abbeville and Tommy D. E. Smith of Elberton, GA; a daughter, Ann Hattaway, of Aiken; a sister, Janie Taylor, of Abbeville; twelve grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 3:00PM to 4:00PM Friday, May 31, 2013 at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 4:00PM in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Long Cane Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Smith may be sent to the Abbeville Veterans Memorial Foundation, 879 Old Douglas Mill Rd. Abbeville, SC 29620.
