To Nancy, Tessa, Sam, Mike and the rest of the Lesicka family,

I wanted to take a few moments to share my thoughts on Milton.

I had the privilege of working with Milton on a couple of differrent times. First at East Mountain Construction, then at the Federal Courthouse downtown and then we had an adventure in Florida.

I wanted to take a few moments to share my thoughts on Milton.

I had the privilege of working with Milton on a couple of differrent times. First at East Mountain Construction, then at the Federal Courthouse downtown and then we had an adventure in Florida.

It was at EMC that I first noticed Milton's smile, his "devil may care" attitude and his intelligence. He became my mentor about cabinets and woodwork. I came to EMC thinking I knew it all. But even though I deserved to be treated differently, he choose a better path and took me under his wind. It wasn't long before I saw the wisdom that Milton possessed. Not just in work, but also in life. Even though I didn't spend much time in the shop, I looked forward to coming back and sitting with Milton at the breaks and lunches. He would become very animated when the subject of his kids came up. Even when he was upset with something the "teenagers" had done, you always knew he loved them unconditionally. It was during this time he offered up probably the best advice I've ever received, "it will be alright". I was telling him about something my kids had done. I was extremely upset, as only a father can be at his kids, and all Milton could say was "it will be alright". It took awhile but I finally realized that he was right!

As time passed, we parted ways like so many people do. He went one way and I went another. But I was lucky and I again got to work with Milton at the courthouse. It was a great time. One of the few times in my life I really looked forward to going to work and Milton was one of the reasons. He was a genuinely funny guy! He had such a off beat way of looking at things, I enjoyed hearing his opinions. And it was at this time, I was coming to understand how deep a father's and husband's love can be. Milton was showing me the way.

Then we were asked to go down to Florida and install cabinets at Disneyworld. We had to drive 2/3 the way across the US, so there was ample time to talk. And talk we did, nothing was off limits! I think we were in Mississippi at dinner time. Milton wanted to get off the highway and get closer to the Gulf. We weren't that far, so we turned right and headed south. Now we had a truck and trailer, so I was worried about getting someplace where I couldn't turn around. Milton kept saying "go a little farther, go a little farther". I could see the water out the windshield and yet he kept saying "go a little farther". Soon we were on a wooden pier and then he spotted a Mom and Pop place to eat. It was a great place to eat! It was so worth it having to back up the truck and trailer off the pier! It was another good lesson for me. Go just a little farther, there are good things out there.

I think it is important for you to know how Milton touched other people's lives. He was a good man.

Just like all you, I will miss Milton.

I wish so much that I could be there to share in the celebration of Milton’s life.

Even in my aged years I am able to retain a very long memory of Milton. Little flashes of moments that stand out.

Adolescent memories:
• Milton was Gandalf (although we called him Gollum sometimes just to annoy him). And, boy did we annoy him. He took it well.
• I remember, we used a permanent marker and put a heart on his butt through a hole in his underwear while he was napping. Even after all the years that went by, he would still pretend to be very miffed over that occurrence.
• He was an adventurer and we dreamed of doing the things he did.
• He was intelligent and wise.
• He would correct us and scolded us, but we still liked him. He had that way about him.
• He was fabulously musical (Mrs. Gregg didn’t even really have to teach him)
• The war deeply affected him

Teen and young adult memories:
• He gave us rides on his motorcycle (and that was something being as my dad was pretty strict about that)
• He came home with this gorgeous blond woman name Nancy. Wow, did we think he was the coolest guy.
• He never told my parents on me (he took care of the problem himself)
• He was my first exposure to passion (Me and Louise caught him making out with Nancy in the front yard and went giggling off). Oh my Gosh was that weird seeing Milton do “that”.
• The famous Lesicka animal names, which I know he had a huge influence on (Bilbo, American, Russia, Asia, King, etc)
• We read the books he read, listened to the music he played, because we looked up to him.
• Everything he did seemed to have a deep meaning to it.
• Milton and Nancy’s wedding was the wedding of all time. I still refer to it.
• The trip to the mountains to inner tube in the snow. Louise and I were in the back of the blue truck, freezing under a tarp. I found the bottle of Sangria/Sangria and became totally obliterated, made a complete idiot out of myself (However, I wasn’t cold anymore). But, he took care of me; got me semi sobered up, and got me home safely to my parents. That had to be a very uncomfortable moment (although I’m sure my parents weren’t shocked). I can’t believe he forgave me for all my transgressions.
• It was awful when they left Lexington. But not to worry, Milton and Nancy didn’t forget us. They just changed addresses.
• The birth of Tessa. That was one mind opening experience (both a miracle and a shock)

Milton and Nancy became one word (MiltonandNancy). They were a “Mystical Couple” (Mother Earth and Father Time). They were “groovy”. Most of us deferred to them when we needed advice or comfort or the voice of reason. We asked them questions that we couldn’t shock our parents with. However, Milton and Nancy were always quick to correct us.

Milton had a way of posing a question to your question. It was quite annoying at times because his question would stick in your head and stay with you until you finally figured out what he was trying to tell you. He planted a seed of thought so you could figure it out for yourself.

The Lesickas are not just a chapter in the Kuehl story, they encompass our entire story. They are part of the Kuehl life. Relatives. Family.

I will miss you Milton. You are a good man. I am so glad that you were in my life and such a huge influence.

To the whole Lesicka family - I wish I could be there to celebrate Milton's life. I know that is what you are doing - celebrating your brother / husband/ Dad / Grandfather / uncle / friend. Milton means so much to the Kuehl family - there is such a history. Milton was the calm, wry, quietly smart, handsome patriarch of the 2 families' baby boomer generation. We have seen Milton only a few times and so do not know him well. I have felt a sort of kinship with him since I also have a nuerological disease, Parkinson's. Through family we have kept up with his battle with ALS. We hope there is some comfort in knowing that he and you, his family, have been lifted up in prayer during our worship these past months.

We will be taking care of Marleigh and Makenna during the service.
