Monica (Horner) Leier, 79, Braddock, ND, died June 4, 2011, after a long, courageous battle with cancer, at St. Gabriel's Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday June 8, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Katherine's Catholic Church in Braddock with Rev. Ross Laframboise officiating. Burial will be held in St. Katherine's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday at Parkway Funeral Service with a rosary/vigil at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Monica was born on February 23, 1932, the daughter of Ignatz and Eva (Schlosser) Horner. She was raised on the family farm south of Napoleon and attended Manheim Grade School. She married the love of her life, John Leier, on June 20, 1950. They farmed north of Braddock for ten years and then moved to another farm in the same general area in 1960 where they raised nine children. During the '90s, Monica worked for Arrow Cleaning Service for ten years. Monica enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, quilting, reading, playing cards, and gardening. She also enjoyed following her grandchildren's activities and spending time with her family and special friends. Monica loved to travel; her favorite trip was to Rome. She loved helping and taking care of everyone. No matter who you were, if you came into their home, you would get the best meal of your life no matter what time of the day. All of her sons, grandsons, and some nephews loved hunting and they would come to hunt on the weekends at the farm. Monica would feed every one of them no matter how many and she loved it! Monica won a Public Awareness Award from the American Diabetes Association. She was very active in Homemaker's Club and her church, which she was very dedicated to. She always helped the Braddock Thrashers make homemade soup and fry bread. She is survived by husband of 60 years, John; daughters, Leeshia (Tom) Hayes, Clara (Steve) Lacher, and Marsha Leier, all of Bismarck, and Vivian (Gene) Windhorst of Alexandria, MN; sons, Dennis (Patty) of Jamestown, Keith (Laurie), Glenn (Tina), Neal (Heather), and Leon (Gina), all of Bismarck; brothers, Andy Horner of Linton, Albert (Jolanta) Horner, and Clifford (Aggie) Horner, all of Bismarck; sisters, Betty (Rod) Wiecks of Dillworth, MN, and Angeline (Valentine) Jacob of Linton; 29 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and many Godchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother; son-in-law; and sister-in-law.
