Monica M. McAvey, 59, of Sutton, MA passed away July 26, 2011 after a brief battle with cancer. Born and raised in Worcester, she is the daughter of Donald F. and Frances M. (Tighe) McAvey. Besides her parents, she is survived by her eleven siblings: Mora F. McAvey, M. Sheila McAvey and her husband Daniel Rose, Eileen F. McAvey, Shawn P. McAvey and his wife Carol Jean, Michael McAvey and his wife Donna, Suibhan (Bonnie) McAvey- Luperchio and her husband Ronald, Murdoch G. McAvey, Sr. and his wife Maritza, Grainne A. McAvey, Rebecca A. Leovich, Martin McAvey and his wife Laurie, and Brigid K. Gore and her husband Richard. She also leaves twenty nieces and nephews and eleven great nieces and nephews and her good friend, Russell Barthelmes. Monica attended St. John's Grammar School, and graduated from North High School. She received a business degree from Quinsigamond Community College. Through out her life she was a part of, and worked at, the family's business, Mrs. Mack's Bakery. She worked for a short time at the U.S. Post Office and was employed for many years at Frito Lay, Inc., Checkout Liquors, and the Donovan Academy. Monica celebrated life fully, declaring "Only the Best." She engaged in sports such as skiing and scuba diving. Her purple Harley Davidson Motorcycle was her joy. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11am Monday, August 1, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1290 Grafton St., Worcester, MA 01604. The family will receive people in the church entry from 10-11am. No graveside service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Monica M. McAvey Memorial Fund c/o United Bank, 1393A Grafton St., Worcester, MA 01604.
