Montaú Janell McCloud was born on September 16, 1980 in Elizabeth, New Jersey son of Daphne Elaine Griffin and Jeffrey McCloud. He was raised in Linden, New Jersey and graduated from Linden High School in the Class of 1999. Monty, as he was called by family and friends, was an excellent basketball player. During his time in high school, he played and excelled on the Linden Varsity Basketball team as Number 33 under Coach Colicchio. He also played basketball on the Newark Ram Athletic AAU team. The team traveled to New York, Ohio, and Colorado and competed against some of the best players in the nation. From the age of thirteen through seventeen he received attention from many Scouts and college coaches for his versatile style of play, his soft touch while shooting from long range and strong work on the backboards. Monty played both positions center and forward on the basketball teams. He attended Union County College in Cranford and while there he played on the basketball team. Monty was a self-employed truck driver having obtained his CDL license. His goal was to eventually purchase his own truck. He was also employed as a Car Salesman in the tri-state area. Monty was baptized at the age of 18 at Bethlehem Community Church in East Orange, New Jersey under the leadership of Bishop Leo C. Smith. Monty enjoyed cooking for his family and watching and playing basketball in MLK Memorial Park also known as Forth Ward Park in Linden. In his spare time, he could be found rapping in the Music studio. He enjoyed being around his children and adored his Nana, Lois McCloud. He was loved by everyone in the community and will truly be missed by his family and friends. Monty was predeceased by his grandfather George "Pop Pop" McCloud in 2007. He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Daphne Elaine Griffin; his dad, Jeffrey Felix McCloud and step-mother Norma; two children, Kamyya McCloud and Jeremiah Noble; four sisters, Tanya Green, Ashlee, Candice and Sydney McCloud; grandmother, Lois McCloud; four aunts, Regina McCloud, Natasha and Nicole Collins, and Aretha Meekins; one nephew, Donte Green and a host of loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
