Morgan P. Hanson, 91, of Fairview Park, retired from NACA/NASA Lewis Research Center in 1980 after 38 years as an aerospace engineer. He received his engineering degree from North Dakota State University. His career dealt with various phases of engine propulsion involving reciprocating, jet and rocket engines. Later in his career he was instrumental in the introduction of reinforced plastics at NASA. High strength glass fibers were first utilized for the reinforcement of plastics. Later, when high strength carbon fibers became available, he did considerable evaluation with various polymeric resin systems. He promoted the use of reinforced plastics for use in jet engine components. These high strength materials were found to be more desirable than the metal parts they replaced because they are significantly lighter in weight. As a result of this effort, reinforced plastics have found extended use in jet engines of today. After his retirement from NASA, he became a consultant to TRIBON, Inc. (now DuPont Vespel Parts & Shapes Inc.) In 1987 he was the recipient of Tribon's parent company "President's Award for Technical Innovations" for the improvement of jet engine components. These components are currently manufactured and used in commercial and military jet engine components. He was active with the Boy Scouts Troop 401 at St. Angela Merici Church. Mr. Hanson passed away on February 6, 2012. Morgan's family would like to thank the many friends and staff of Westlake Village for the many years of care and friendship. He was the beloved husband of the late Helen (nee Asmann); loving father of David (Carolyn), Paul (Anastasia) and Timothy; beloved grandfather of Kate L. Hanson, Cara R. Byrne, Grace L. Hanson, John P. (deceased) and Julia E.; brother of two sisters (deceased) and two brothers (deceased). Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Angela Merici Church, 20970 Lorain Rd., Fairview Park on Friday, February 10, 2012 at 11:30am. Interment at Lakewood Park Cemetery. Memorials may be forwarded to the Poor Clare Nuns, 3501 Rocky River Dr., Cleveland, OH 44111. www.buschfuneral.com 440-333-9774
