Mozella Bailey of 92 Eastview Ave. departed this life on Saturday, January 14, 2012. A native of Anderson, SC and resident of Asheville for 60 years, she was a daughter of Keese and Nettie Agnew Walters, both preceded her in death. Mozella was a graduate of Stephens-Lee High School and a member of the Elks. She was the first black waitress at Woolworth's Five and Dime and was employed at Enka Lake Club, Bailey's Cafeteria, Christ School and Bojangles before retirement. She was known throughout Asheville for her culinary skills, especially her yeast rolls. Surviving are her sons, William H. Bailey of Asheville and Robert K. Bailey (Janet) of Junction City, KS; daughters, Olivia Young (Claude) of Asheville and Marian B. Allen of Hyattsville, MD; a brother, Keith Walters of Clarksville, TN; 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; a nephew, Keith Walters, III; devoted companion, Howard Smith; special nephew, Roosevelt Longshore (Pamela) of Baltimore, MD; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church where she was a member. Rev. John W. Brewster will officiate, burial will be in Sunset Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence. Arrangements are under the direction of Hart Funeral Service. An online memorial register is available at www.hartfuneralservice.com
