Nancy A. Sheroda, age 73, a resident of Mountain View Care Center and formerly of the Tripps Park section of West Scranton, died Thursday evening. She is survived by her beloved husband, Edward Sheroda. Wed on August 8, 1956, the couple were married for 55 years. Born in Scranton on February 8, 1938, daughter of the late James and Pauline Flynn O'Connor, Nancy was a graduate of West Scranton High School. Prior to her retirement, for twenty years she worked as a receptionist for the Community Medical Center's School of Nursing and she had also worked as a waitress for the Elks Club. Of Roman Catholic faith, she was a longtime member of St. Patrick's Church and the church's Society of the Faithful. A former member of the Tripps Park Civic Association, she was also very active within the Democratic party, and for a pastime, she loved to play bingo. Of Irish decent, she had always been proud of her heritage. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, she cared deeply about her family. They will forever remember her advice: If anything is wrong, a quick prayer to St. Ann will work it all out. She passed away surrounded by her family. She is also survived by her two children, John Sheroda and Marie Hebert, both of Scranton; her four siblings, James O'Connor of Whitehouse, Texas, Mary Kluck of Scranton, Kathleen Wademan of Fleetville and Margaret Moran and husband Jerry of Nicholson; four grandchildren, Lindsay and Leslie Sheroda and Tiffany and Nicholas Hebert; and many nieces and nephews. A brother, Frank J. O'Connor, and sisters, Pauline Halloran and Mary Lou O'Connor, also preceded her in death. Her family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Mountain View Care Center for all of the care and compassion they had shown Nancy during her stay. Funeral services are scheduled to begin at 8:45AM from the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue in West Scranton, with a 9:30AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Patrick's Church, 1403 Jackson Street in Scranton, to be celebrated by the Very Rev. Martin M. Boylan, Pastor. Interment will follow in the Cathedral Cemetery. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Monday between 4-7:00PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Nancy's name to Mountain View Care Center, 2309 Stafford Avenue, Scranton, 18505.
