Nancy Gail Burns Brake, 70, of Hot Springs, was called to be with her heavenly Lord Monday, August 15, 2011. Born March 12, 1941 in Houston, Texas, she was predeceased by her father, Benjamin Hobson Burns. She was a 1959 High School graduate in Pensacola, Florida and Judson College for Women in Marion, Alabama, with a Speech and English degree. She was past president of the Hot Springs Lioness Club, member of the Forum Club, National Park Chapter Order of the Eastern Star #635, past Noble Grand of Sarah Rebekah Lodge #11, past Royal Matron of Garland Court #21 order of Amaranth. She was a charter member of Alpha Kappa Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, served on the Triangle Board of Beta Sigma Phi International and nominated for title of Hot Springs Beta Sigma Phi Citywide Woman of the Year in 2004. She was a past president of the Salvation Army’s Women’s Auxiliary, awarded the 2003 Angel Tree Volunteer award by the Salvation Army and the Salvation Army Citywide Volunteer award. She was awarded the Governor’s Volunteer Excellence award in 2004. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church and baptized in the faith. She was a retired owner of Kids Korner Day Care, Hot Springs, a college English teacher, a homemaker, pianist, organist and vocalist.
She was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother and mother-in-law. She always gave of herself to others, was loving and compassionate. She loved her grandchildren, they were her life. She lived every day for God.
Survivors include her mother, Bernice Burns-Stivers; her children, Melissa and Tony Burris of Hot Springs, Scott and Amy Brake of Kirksville, Missouri, and Tonya and George Breckenridge of Boise, Idaho; grandchildren, Bryttani Bartlett, Lyndsi Bartlett, David Bartlett, Jr., Austin Bartlett, Macey Burris, Megan Burris, Bailey Brake, George Breckenridge and Christopher Breckenridge.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday August 19, 2011 at Gross Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Todd Houck and Brother Rick Funderburk officiating.
Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday at Gross Funeral Home.
