Heart Emblem

Nancy Price Bowman ascended to her Father on the 18th day of January, 2012 after a difficult year-long battle with pulmonary issues.

Nancy was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas on August 25, 1930 although she always said she regretted not being born in Texas. She was the third child of Pinckney Bryan and Lucie Clift Price. The family move to Austin in 1940 was a happy one with many fond memories. Nancy attended University Junior High where she established and maintained life long friendships that came to be known as "The Thirteen Stripes". Nancy loved her Austin High years with debate and Red Jackets. After graduating from Austin High at age 15, she attended the University of Texas where she met Hardie Bowman (Thornton Hardie Bowman III). In 1948 she married Hardie, enjoying a close partnership of 54 years. She was a proud member of Beta Gamma Sigma honorary fraternity and received her Business Administration Degree in 1954. As she was determined to finish her degree, Hardie suggested she include a course in cooking. Dismayed at receiving a B in cooking, she laughingly admitted she was a "B" cook all of her life.

Her husband Hardie predeceased her in 2003. Surviving are her three children – Thornton Hardie Bowman IV (Tee) of Corpus Christi, William Clift Bowman of Austin, and Sally Bowman of Austin. Grandchildren are Thornton Hardie Bowman V (Bo) and wife Beth of Austin, Brandon Anderson Bowman and wife Jawina of Corpus Christi, Kelly Bowman and Kate Bowman of Corpus Christi. She was very proud of five great grandchildren. She is survived by two brothers, Pinckney Clift Price and wife Sue, William Henry Price, both of Austin, with seven nieces and nephews.

Volunteering in the Austin community was nearly a career for Mrs. Bowman. The Junior League of Austin was a special organization for her, serving as president from 1966-1967. Becoming an environmentalist in 1970, she participated in the organization of two volunteer groups, one to promote respect for natural resources in West Lake Hills (Wild Basin Wilderness Park) and another in the city of Austin (We Care). She particularly enjoyed the study of history and volunteering at the Center for American History. Trying to improve the status of the Austin city parks was an ongoing project of Mrs. Bowman, serving on the board of the Austin Parks Foundation. Her final volunteer efforts were spent with the Austin History Center Association where she served as president in 2009- 2010.

The family would like to especially thank the tireless caregivers from Right At Home: Connie Henderson, Lahoma Russell, and Linda Voss.

Visitation will be on Friday, January 20th from 6-8 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 21st 2 p.m. at Tarrytown United Methodist Church, 2601 Exposition Blvd.
