Naomi Carper Overfelt, went to be with the Lord on December 10, 2011. Naomi was born November 5, 1918 in Franklin County, Virginia to Willie and Ruth Bowles. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Joseph B. Overfelt; a son, Jerry Wayne; a daughter, Ruby Frances; her parents; a sister; and a brother. Naomi was an active member of Virginia Heights Baptist Church. She joined Broad Creek Baptist in 1952. She was a member of The Ruth Bible Class and The Ann Keeling Circle. Naomi was employed at the Navy Exchange for 31 years. Naomi is survived by her children, Ruth Fletcher and her husband Jim, Marvin Overfelt and his wife Betty, Joe Ben Overfelt and his wife Sheila, all of Virginia Beach, VA; two grandchildren, Tammie Cook and her husband Stan and Cammie Collins and her husband Lee; four great-grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. Naomi's greatest pleasure in life was simply spending time with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, at Virginia Heights Baptist Church with Pastor Gene Strickland officiating. There will be a visitation and reception from 11:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be private. The family extends our deep appreciation to Mom's many friends for their support and a very special thanks to the staff at Lake Taylor Transitional Care Dogwood Wing for their exceptional care of our mother. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Virginia Heights Baptist Church, 1251 Kempsville Rd., Norfolk, VA 23502.
