Services for Longtime Lubbock resident, Neil Vaughn, age 77, will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 4, 2011 in the Vandelia Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. The family will be receiving friends from 6-7 p.m., Thursday at Sanders Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the care of Sanders Funeral Home.
Neil peacefully greeted his Savior Jesus Christ, on January 30, 2011, after a long battle with cancer and heart disease.
Neil was born in Lubbock Texas on June 8, 1933. He graduated from Lubbock High School in 1951 where he was voted "Senior Boy Favorite,” and he graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in Business Administration in 1955. He married Patricia Fay Lynes (deceased) later that year and they had two children together.
After serving in the Army, Neil began a successful career in the insurance industry. He faithfully served his clients through several agencies over the years, including
the Vaughn-Watson Agency, Wolfforth Insurance Agency and lastly, Insurance Partners, until a few weeks before his death. Neil was such a contributing member of the Wolfforth community that he was named "Wolfforth Man of the Year" by the Wolfforth Lions Club.
Vandelia Church of Christ was the church home for Neil and his wife, Johnece. There, Neil served first as a deacon and later as a greeter. He and Johnece developed many close relationships with the Vandelia congregation over the years, and serving the Lord and their church family was their foremost passion.
Neil enjoyed golf, music, Red Raider sports, puttering in his yard, barbecuing and time with friends and family. Lubbock High graduates will always remember his dedication to planning the class reunions and his Texas Tech buddies will surely miss him at their annual Wrangler reunions.
Neil will be remembered most as a man of God's heart, a loving husband, caring father and grandfather, generous friend, and a man who referred to Lubbock, Texas and the surrounding plains as "God's Country."
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Johnece; daughter, Cindy Behrenfeld and husband Fred, son, Greg Vaughn and wife, Katie, children by marriage Greg Pritchard, David Pritchard, Sandy Derise and husband, Matt; and seven grandchildren, Samuel Behrenfeld, Tyler and Caroline Vaughn, Michelle and Michael Pritchard, and Lane and Logan Derise. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alva and Selma Vaughn, and brother, Aubrey Glenn Vaughn.
Neil's family and many friends mourn his passing, but celebrate his life, knowing his impact will be lovingly remembered.
