Nelda M. Humphrey, 66, of LaPorte, Indiana, passed away, Thursday October 28, 2010 at LaPorte Hospital. She was born June 25, 1944 in Morehead, Kentucky, the daughter of Andrew Brown, Sr. and Olive (Peyton) Brown. She has lived in the LaPorte area, since 1966, coming from Roswell, Georgia. Nelda worked as a hostess for Christo's Restaurant. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, her pets and was a great cook. Nelda was everyone's Mom. On March 5, 1964, in Toulon, IL, she married Robert Wayne Humphrey I, who preceded her in death October 14, 2006. She is survived by her three sons - Robert Humphrey II of La Porte, IN, Sherman (Shaelane) Humphrey of Plymouth, IN, Charles (Tammy) Humphrey of Walkerton, IN; nine grandchildren, Ashley Vargas, Arie Humphrey, Charles Humphrey II, Roman Ruiz, Desiree Humphrey, Cheyenne Humphrey, Ricky Humphrey, Jr., Angie Humphrey, Terri Ann Reevis; nine great grandchildren; two sisters - Barbara Pentland of Stillwater, MN, Julia Longebrake of Middlebury, IN; two brothers - Charles R. Brown of Elkhart, IN, Andrew Brown, Jr. of La Porte, IN; and mother-in-law - Betty M. Humphrey of La Porte, IN. Nelda was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Kelly Humphrey, son, Ricky Humphrey, and brother, Raymond Brown. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends on Sunday, October 31, 2010 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm and at the Calvery Baptist Church on Monday, November 1, 2010 from 10:00 am until time of service. Services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, November 1, 2010 at the Calvery Baptist Church with Rev. Curtis Southwood, officiating. Interment will follow at the Patton Cemetery Memorial contributions may be made to the Feed the Children Foundation P.O. Box 36 Oklahoma City, OK 73101 or American Cancer Society 601 West Edison Road Mishawaka, IN 46545.
