Nellie Holland, age 83, a five-year resident of the Taylor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center passed away Friday morning. Her husband, Joseph Holland, preceded her in death on November 7, 1993. Born in Taylor on March 4, 1927, daughter of the late John Joseph and Victoria Saflarski Samsock, Nellie was educated at Taylor High School. Of Roman Catholic faith, she was a longtime member of the former Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Taylor. She was a member of the Taylor Hose Co. #2's Ladies' Auxilliary, once serving as president. A sweet and gentle woman who adored her grandchildren, she will be dearly missed by all family and friends. Her family would like to thank the staff of the Taylor Nursing Home, Dr. Kenneth Sebastianelli and Hospice Community Care for all of their care and compassion. Surviving are her children; her sons, Joseph Holland and wife Donna of Scranton, Atty. John (Cosmo) Holland of Taylor and Mechanicsburg, James Holland and wife Beverly of Moosic and Michael Holland and wife Susan of Old Forge, and her daughters, Patricia Amato and Rosemary Cencetti and husband Armand, both of Old Forge, her brothers, Louis Samsock of West Virginia, Carl and Frank Samsock, both of Maryland, her sister, Victoria Laskiewicz of Moscow, grandchildren, Maureen Sheehan, Joseph, Daniel and Brian Holland, Armand Cencetti, James, Sarah and John Holland, James, Michael and Kyle Holland, Kieran Taylor Holland, Brandi Amato and Cate Makarezyk, and four great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by brothers, John, Joseph and Stanley Samsock and sisters, Helen Godlewski, Adele Molinaro, Adele Samsock and Anna Muha. Funeral services will begin with prayers on Monday at 9:30AM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with a 10:00AM Mass of Christian Burial in Divine Mercy Church, 312 Davis Street in Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Francis L. Pauselli, Pastor. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Sunday between 5-8:00PM at the funeral home.
