James Island, SC.....Nettie Suggs Hagstrum, born on June 22, 1916, died at Roper Hospital in Charleston May 5, 2009. She lived at the Savannah House on James Island.
Mrs. Hagstrum was born in Conway, SC, a daughter of the late Mack W. and Anna Martin Bourne. She was a member of Fort Johnson Baptist Church on James Island and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be sorely missed. She can be best described as a caring compassionate person who always put others before herself. Mrs. Hagstrum was twice widowed, first by Lorenzo Dow Suggs, Jr., and her second husband, Howard Eugene Hagstrum.
Surviving are four sons, Lorenzo Dow Suggs, III and wife Cecil Ann of Johns Island, SC, Robert Michael Suggs of Adams Run, SC, Thomas Grant Hagstrum of N. Miami, FL and Timothy Alfred Hagstrum of Charleston; three grandsons; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Marvin T. Bourne of Charleston; and a sister, Annette Bourne Todd of Conway.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday at Langston Baptist Church in Conway with Rev. Bruce Davenport and Rev. Frank Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 PM Thursday at Langston Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Langston Baptist Church, 763 Hwy. 905, Conway, SC 29526 or to Fort Johnson Baptist Church, 1473 Camp Rd, James Island, SC 29412.
