Nicholas 'Nick' C. Theisen, age 80, of Darwin, died at the Meeker County Memorial Hospital in Litchfield, MN on Friday, February 8, 2008. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, February 11, 2008, at the Church of St. Philip with Father Joseph Steinbeisser as celebrant. Visitation will be held from 3:00 - 6:00 PM, on Sunday, at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home, Litchfield, MN, with a 6:00 PM prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Monday.
Nicholas 'Nick' Christ Theisen, the son of Christ and Elizabeth (Kinzer) Theisen, was born on September 19, 1927, in Watkins, MN. He attended Litchfield High School, and entered the Navy as a senior in high school. He served on a troop transport ship during WWII. After being discharged from the Navy, he worked as a banker in Litchfield, and then moved to Rapid City, South Dakota. He was united in marriage to Helaine Kielty. He later moved to Hot Springs, South Dakota, where he continued banking. Later in life he returned back to his native roots, in central Minnesota. He was a member of the Church of St. Philip and the Knights of Columbus. Nick enjoyed being involved with 4-H while living in Hot Springs, gardening, attending church, singing, and birds of all kinds. He also raced pigeons and raised canaries. Nick?s passion was farming and ranching, which he pursued while living in Hot Springs.
Nick is survived by his children John (and Shelli) Theisen of Winter Park, FL, Peggy (and Roger) Exum, of Clinton, TN, Colleen (and Craig) Fuhs of Burnsville, MN, Mary (and Thomas) Tschetter of Charlotte, NC, Terese (and Dan) Leuschen of Windsor, CO, Maureen (and Wendell) Niewenhuis of Aberdeen, SD and Chris (and Bern) Theisen of Bend, OR; 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sister Mary O?Keefe; and a friend Bud Boerner of Darwin.
He was preceded in death by his parents Christ and Elizabeth; and brothers and sisters Frank, Adeline, Alma, Kay and Esther.
