Noel “Jr.” McRae, 80, of Hot Springs passed away Sunday, February 27, 2011 in Texarkana. Born August 5, 1930 in Bullock Springs, Arkansas to Noel and Hazel Lingo McRae, Sr., he was a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Navy, an educator and a retired coach who developed the first football team at both Mountain Pine and Ola High Schools and a coach at the Hot Springs Senior Center for Bean Bag Baseball. The team won Bronze 2009 and Silver 2010 and planned to go for the Gold in 2011. He was predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Myrtle Sheets McRae, son, Brent W. McRae, two sisters, Pat Ward and Jackie Stanford and granddaughter, Stephanie Rowe.

Survivors include his wife, Opal Frazier McRae of Hot Springs; two sons and one daughter-in-law, David and Rhonda McRae of Little Rock and Bobby Brassie of Olney, Illinois; seven daughters and three sons-in-law, Margaret Lynn and Larry Tribout of Belleville, Illinois, Kathy McRae of Shiloh, Illinois, DeAnn and Charles Almond of Hot Springs, Becky Canaday of Forrest City, Holly Jones of Glenwood, Sharon and Tommy Freeman of Carthage, Missouri and Carla Martinez of Hot Springs; one brother and sister-in-law, Bruce and Liz McRae of Ore City, Texas; ten grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Harvey’s Chapel. Honorary pallbearers are assistant coach Roger Tolleson and those who were members of the first football team at Mountain Pine High School and players of the first football team at Ola High School. Cremated remains will be interred at Wesleyan Cemetery in Point Cedar at a later date.
