Nora Mae Hein March 13, 1916 ~ July 22, 2011 Funeral services for Nora Mae Hein, 95, of Somerville are set for 3:00 p.m. Monday, July 25, 2011 from Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Robert Tompkins, assisted by Joel Hein, officiating. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery in Somerville. Visitation with the family present will be from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, July 24th at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville. Mrs. Hein died Friday, July 22, 2011 at her home in Somerville. She was born March 13, 1916, in Garland, Texas, the daughter of Ruel Hughes Corley and Nellie Mae (Schafer) Corley. She moved to Somerville in 1952 and worked sewing cushions at Maddox Furniture Company in Brenham for 20 years. She also took care of elderly people, sitting with them night and day while their family was gone. She was also quite a homemaker who was a faithful member of Community Chapel in Somerville. Nora was known for her giving nature. She volunteered tirelessly in the community of Somerville and Lyons. She volunteered her time at the Somerville Area Assistance Ministries (SAAM) house, serving as treasurer and working from the time it began until 2008. She also served as the treasurer for the Somerville Ministerial Alliance for many years. She volunteered at the nursing home in Caldwell and taught Sunday school at Community Chapel for more than thirty years. She loved to sing and was always a member of the choir. She sang solos for the church and for friends, even after she turned 80. She also worked as a substitute teacher for Somerville I.S.D. when she was 80 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hugo Hein, Sr.; her sons, Henry Roland Hein and Tilman Lloyd Hein; a grandson, Jimmie Balke, a brother, Charlie Corley, half-sisters, Lena Brinkmann, Nellie Faye Brinkmann, Sara Castallo, Louise Carter, and Dorothy Jones; step-sisters, Annie Hicks and Idalia Odom; half-brothers, Hubert Brinkman, Ruel Corley, Jr., Henry Roland Corley, Andrew Corley, and J. P. Corley; step-brother, August Brinkmann, and Oscar Brinkmann; sons-in-law, Billy Balke and Arthur McManners; and brother-in-law, Howard Mickelson. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy McManners of Houston, Laverne Chollett of Somerville, Nelline Marie & Jack Isom of Little Rock, Arkansas, Helen Joyce Balke, of Hitchcock, Lourene Louise & Otto Falk, Jr. of Bellville, Virginia & Ray Asselin of Arkansas, Alice & Bill Schiel of Magnolia, Sarah & Neftali Munoz of Huntsville; her son and daughter-in-law, Hugo & Dolores Hein, Jr. of College Station; her half-sisters, Lizzie Mickelson of Caldwell, Grace Allen of Longview; her step-sister, Hilda Strong of Temple; twenty seven grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; along with numerous other relatives. The family has requested that memorials be made to Community Chapel in Somerville. Arrangements have been entrusted to Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville.
