Norma Benedict Gentry, age 87, of Atria Assisted Living, Virginia Beach, unexpectedly passed away on December 28, 2011, at Sentara Virginia Beach Hospital. She loved the Lord and was a faithful servant. Family members are comforted by knowing that she will be watching her family from Heaven along with her husband, James Wallace Gentry. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Norfolk for most of her life and active in the church choir. Norma was loved by everyone who met her and was known for her wonderful zest for life and a happy face everyday. After her husband's death in 2004, she went to live at Atria Assisted Living. While there, she had seven years of making new friends, participating in her favorite game, Bingo, being an ambassador for Atria, leading the "Sing Along with Norma" and basically enjoying the rest of her life. The family would like to thank all of the personnel at Atria for taking such wonderful care of their mother and those who were a friend to Norma. She loved all of you. Earlier in her life, she was a homemaker, school guard in the 1950's at Lafayette Elementary School in Norfolk and food demonstrator in may stores in the Hampton Roads area. The family would like to acknowledge Jenny Dozier who was her "adopted daughter" and always helped take care of her. She is survived by her daughters, Linda G. Reynolds and husband Richard of Virginia Beach and Mary G. Capps and husband Tim of Seminole, FL. She leaves behind her sister, Delores Gressett and husband Will of Richmond, VA. Norma is survived by five grandchildren, Laurie Downs and husband Trevor of Burlington, NC, Tim Capps, Jr. and wife Sarah of Tampa, FL, Mark Capps also of Tampa, FL, Scott Capps and wife Christy of St. Petersburg, FL and Robert Gray of Boston, MA. She is also survived by six great grandchildren, McKenna, Isabelle, Brady, Hazel, Keira and Charlotte. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 1, 2012, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel from 6:30 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 2, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with a reception following. Afterwards, Norma will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
