One day driving home from a date somewhere, John Paxson, Dave's brother, was driving and Dave and Norma were in the truck with him. As they crossed the railroad tracks Dave took a box out of his pocket, opened it, and put an engagement ring on Norma's finger. He never did ask her to marry him; he just put the ring on her finger. He told her not to take off that ring and to wear it to school. They were married on April 16, 1955 by the Justice of the Peace at the Grant City Courthouse at 4:45 PM.
Dave and Norma were married until they were separated in death on May 28, 2003. During their marriage they had 3 sons and a daughter. Every year they would take a trip with their children.
