Norman C. King (Duck), 74 of Hartford, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and uncle entered eternal rest Sunday, June 7, 2009 surrounded by his loving family. A lifelong resident of Hartford, Norman was born November 15, 1934 to the late Elizabeth (Franklin) and James King. He attended Hartford Public Schools, in time he received his B.A. from New Hampshire College. Norman was employed by Underwood Typewriter, S.A.N.D, later retiring from Hartford Housing Authority while still working for Hartford Parks and Rec. Hartfords 1977 Man of the Month, Norman was a member of St. Michaels Church, NAACP, and the African American Alliance. In seeking to change the community, Norman was active in politics, made efforts to end gang activity, and marched for civil rights in Washington, D.C. He enjoyed reading, bowling, swing dancing, listening to jazz, the Lakers, and playing in the over 30 to 50s basketball league. He leaves to treasure in memory, two cherished daughters, Wanda King Smith of Bloomfield, Cheryl King of Hartford; daughter in law, Barbara King of Lake Charles, LA; two sisters, JoAnn Iverson and Lee Peart of Hartford; four brothers, Robert King of Newington, Clarke King (Loretta) of Hartford, Garry King (Yvonne) of South Windsor, and Bruce King of Hartford; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren known to them as Daddyladdy; also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Norman was predeceased by his wife, Betty Rowe King; two sons, Norman and Vincent King; two sisters, Roberta and Ruth Elaine King.
