Norman Seth Downes, 61, residing in Gates, NC, passed away January 23, 2012, in Norfolk, VA. A native of Washington D.C., he was formerly active in the Boy Scouts of America where he obtained the rank of Eagle Scout. He is survived by two daughters, Jenny (Kevin) Cowan of Gates, NC and Emily Downes of Tapiola, MI; a son, James Downes of Virginia Beach, VA; three grandchildren, Brandon, Austin and Tyler Cowan; three sisters, Cathy (Chuck) Brown of West Milton, OH, Annette (Joe) Duley of Brandywine, MD and Bea Porter of Alexandria, VA; a brother, Eric Downes of Bristow, VA; nine nieces; and four nephews. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 12 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel. The burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
