Olin Leroy Spann
Greenville, SC

Olin LeRoy Spann (Roy) of Hendersonville, NC and Greenville, SC passed away on Thursday October 20, 2011 in Hendersonville, NC.

Born in Greenville on December 31, 1934 he was the son of the late Eugene Langdon Spann and Florence Haskins Spann.

Mr. Spann is survived by his wife, Betty Elrod Spann of the homes; two children Mitchell Gordon Spann (Juli) of Powdersville, SC and Juli Spann Rivers (Stephen) of Spartanburg, SC, three step-children Cynthia E. Kerns (David) of Greenville, SC, W. William Elrod (Kathi) of Winterhaven, FL and Lesley E. Crozier Kramer (Stan) of McDonough, GA. He is survived by his former wife, Carolyn Gordon Spann of Greenville, SC and a brother Jerry Eugene Spann (Sandy) of Columbia, SC. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 6 step-grandchildren and numerous cousins of whom he was very fond.

Mr. Spann was predeceased by his daughter, Carol Spann Hudson of Gray Court, SC.

Mr. Spann graduated from Greenville High School in 1952 and from Presbyterian College in 1956, where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.

Mr. Spann worked for years at Rudolph Penland Company and retired from Saxonia Franke of Spartanburg, SC in 1998, where he was General Manager. He also owned Roy Spann Bookkeeping Systems. After retirement, Mr. Spann drove a school bus for the Hendersonville School District and Arden Woods Retirement Home. He was an avid golfer with "The Dirty Dozen" at the Greenville Country Club and a member of the Henderson County Tennis Association and the Crooked Creekers Golf Group of Hendersonville, NC.

Mr. Spann was a member of First Baptist Church of Taylors, SC.

Services will be held at Mackey Mortuary at 3:00 pm Sunday October 23, 2011 with visitation Saturday evening 6pm – 8pm.
