Orville “Coon Dog” Tomblin
Orville “Coon Dog” Tomblin 79, a Prosperity resident for 53 years passed away August 8th 2011 from a long illness.
Born September 5th 1935, in Harts, W.V. to Frank Tomblin and Ann Mullins Tomblin.
He was preceded in death by his brother Ray Tomblin and sister Mable Tomblin Hall.
Survived by his wife of 56 years Phyllis Gartin Tomblin; 3 daughters Connie (Brad) Stover of Prosperity, Cathy (John) Tomblin Bollten of Zebulon, NC., and Patty Tomblin of Prosperity; 2 grandchildren Drs. Jennifer (Glenn) Stover Brammer, Jacob B (Ashlea) Stover; 2 great granddaughters Bethany Bollten, and Morgan Stover; 3 great grandsons Jackson and Eli Brammer, and Wyatt Bollten; special girls like “granddaughters” Ashlea and Katie Ray; special “adopted” son Tim Ray; brothers Earl Tomlin and wife Freda, Sherman Tomlin and wife Donna; special friends Terry Daniel, Roy Hall and Carl Sauer. He was Paw Paw to many children.
Orville worked for Bartlett Tree Co. for 31 years, and Consol Coal for 10 years. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and craftsman. He knew every tree in the woods. He was a member of the North Beckley Church of Christ.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday August 11th at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley with Pastor Carl Kincaid and Pastor Adam Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers are Tim Ray, Frank Keene, Greg Stover, Gary Stover, Roy Hall, and Terry Daniels. Honorary Pallbearers are Shane Hall, Howard Bowyer, and Carl Sauer.
Friends may gather with the family Wednesday August 10th from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
