Oscar Edward Telg August 18, 1919 ~ February 14, 2011 Oscar Edward Telg, 91, of Lyons, Texas passed away on February 14, 2011. He was born August 18, 1919 to Will and Emma Telg in Burleson County. He attended school in Chriesman and then went on to work for contractors in the area building bridges and roads. During World War II Oscar proudly served his country in the 27th U. S. Naval Construction Battalion (Seebees) in the South Pacific. After returning home, he married Deloris Rust of Lyons, Texas on March 28, 1946. They made their home in Houston, Texas where he pursued a career as a commercial construction Superintendent overseeing projects in Houston and Bryan/College Station, including several buildings at Texas A&M University. He was a lifelong member of the Carpenters Local Union #551. They resided in the Oak Forest area of Houston where they raised their four children. Upon retirement in 1982, they moved to the family farm in Lyons where he enjoyed working his farm, raising cattle and gardening. Oscar was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He and Deloris were faithful members of the First Baptist Church of Somerville. Oscar is preceded in death by his wife, parents, and four brothers and two sisters and is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Diana Telg of Jersey Village, Texas, three daughters, Judy and Hal Yarbrough of Enterprise, Alabama, Peggy and Steve Mayo of Cypress, Texas, and Debbie Telg of Lyons, Texas; six grandchildren, Blair and Dana Telg, Blake Telg, Leslie and Matt Hearndon, Davis Yarbrough and Allison Mayo; great-granddaughter Chapel Elizabeth Telg; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Thursday, February 17th with the family present only from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Public visitation will resume at 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Friday morning, February 18th, without the family present. Mr. Telg will be in state at the First Baptist Church in Somerville from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral service which will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, officiated by Rev. Corby Brizendine, assisted by Rev. Larry Embry and Rev. Oren McMannus. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery in Somerville. Family members have requested that memorials be given to the American Heart Association, First Baptist Church of Somerville Building Fund, Oaklawn Cemetery of Somerville or Chriesman Cemetery of Chriesman, TX. Arrangements have been entrusted to Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville.
