Mr. Otto William Voss, 94, of Knoxville, Tennessee, and a long time resident of La Porte County died Friday October 22, 2010 in Knoxville, TN. He was a much loved husband, father, and grandfather. Mr. Voss was born March 9, 1916 in Michigan City, Indiana, the son of Otto Voss and Henrietta (Wendt) Voss. Mr. Voss was a veteran of World War II. He landed in Normandy with the Allied Forces and fought his way across Europe for the duration of the war. He was retired from Tonn and Blank Construction in Michigan City, IN where he worked as a construction superintendent. He was a talented carpenter and an avid fisherman. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law - Paula (C. Edward Shoemaker) Voss of Knoxville, TN; son and daughter-in-law - Norman (Brenda) Voss of Aiken, SC; 4 Grandchildren - Douglas (Brenda) Voss of Miamisburg, OH, Graham (Shelly) Voss of Nashville, TN, Jessica Shoemaker of Washington, DC, Nicholas Shoemaker of Knoxville, TN; 3 great granddaughters - Anna, Melia, Jule; and numerous nieces and nephews. Otto was preceded in death by his best friend and wife of 64 years Mary L. Voss; parents; daughter-in-law, Ruth Pahl Voss, 2 brothers, Edward Voss, Robert Voss; 4 sisters, Evelyn Schumaker, Dorothy Gropp, Madeline Brickley and Harriet Lobsiger. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Monday, October 25, 2010 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. Graveside services will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, Michigan City, IN., Tuesday October 26, 2010 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Mark Reshan officiating. Interment will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church, 818 Franklin Square, Michigan City, IN. 46360.
