1. Pat and I talked for months about his family's move from Boston to California. We were very young kids and his family lived upstairs from mine. He would tell me all about California and how great it was going to be and how I would wish that I could go. Being a kid (and a bit jealous), I told him to stop talking about California and I didn't care about the move. Well, as was Pat's way, he told me that I'd be sorry that I said that and I was going to cry like a baby because I would miss him and his family so much when they left. They day they pulled out of the driveway, we said our goodbyes and afterwards, I sat on the front stoop and cried for hours. He was always right, I missed him and the family terribly.

2. In our early years, we lived in a three family home. We lived on the bottom floor and Pat and family lived above us. Oh, we had such wonderful times yet as kids and there was alwasy someone with whom to play. Our backyard was pretty scarce with just dirt and rocks; we never cared. But, the day that the sandbox came and was filled with beautiful white sand, we were in heaven. We would play for hours in that sandbox and talk about everything under the sun. I think that sand was part of the reason Pat wanted to move to California so he could find the beach!
