Paul Black Cunningham –Of Belmont passed away at home on July 15, 2009. He was the beloved husband & best friend of Evelyn (Costello) Cunningham with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.
Born in Beverly, Massachusetts on April 13, 1930, he was the son of the late Francis and Anne Mae (Regan) Cunningham.
He was the devoted father of Paul Cunningham, Jr. & his wife Heather of Wakefield; Susan Ann Conlin & her husband Len of Marblehead; Richard Gavin Cunningham & his wife Mary of Sudbury; Kate Elizabeth Cunningham & Elaine Nee of Denver, CO; Caroline Regan Noone & her husband Atty. Joseph Noone of Belmont; and Mary Evelyn Sotell & her husband James of Cary, NC. Grandfather of Catherine & Suzanne Noone; Jack, Michael & Kate Conlin; Gavin, Matthew & Daniel Cunningham; and Lauren & Andrew Sotell. Brother of Robert L. & Marilyn Cunningham of Chatham and J. Kevin Cunningham of N. Attleboro.
Paul was a Belmont High School Graduate Class of 1948 and an Alumnus of Norwich University Class of 1952. He was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the US Army and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of IEEE, SBANE, and Mass High-Tech.
Mr. Cunningham was formerly employed by General Electric Financial, Raytheon; he was an Entrepreneurial President & Owner of Cunningham Sales, Watson Enterprises, Mass. Components & CHIPS Corp.
Over the years, Paul was actively involved in service to the community. He held town elected offices for Belmont Town Meeting member, Personnel Board, Housing Authority Committee, Boosters President, and was a youth sports coach. He was very proactive in the campaigns of candidates for town and national offices.
His funeral will be held from the STANTON FUNERAL HOME, 786 Mt. Auburn St. (Rt 16) Watertown on Monday at 8 AM. Funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, Common St. Belmont at 9 AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday 3-7 PM. Interment Belmont Cemetery.
