Cox Funeral Home
Bastrop, Louisiana
Funeral services for Mr. Paul B. "Goat" Jones, Sr. age 75 of Bastrop will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 22, 2009 at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop with Reverend Andy Myrick and W. Lance Norsworthy officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at the Bonita Road Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening, May 21, 2009 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home, Bastrop.
Paul Bunyon Jones was born September 19, 1933 in Jones, Louisiana to the Cyrus P. Jones and Nancy Jones. He passed from this life on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 in Bastrop. Paul was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Elmer Jones.
Paul retired as a a laboratory shift supervisor at International Paper Comapany after 42 years of service. He was a graduate of Bastrop High School, a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1953 to 1955 in the Korean Conflict, and a former Mississippi Golden Glove Boxing Champion. An avid and passionate golfer, Paul B. "Goat" Jones was well-known and respected by his fellow golfers around the state of Louisiana. He was an honorary member of the Morehouse Country Club, the club champion numerous times, and a former qualifier for the U.S. Senior Open Golf Tournament.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, E. Fay Jones of Bastrop; two sons, Paul B. Jones, Jr. and wife Jennifer of Lake Charles, Louisiana and Billy Ray Jones of Bastrop; a daughter, Candice Fay "Candy" Norsworthy and husband Maxey Norsworthy of Rayville; seven grandchildren, Jordan L. Jones, Nicholas Paul Jones, Barry E. Jones, Kayla Beth Jones, Jacob Wallace, W. Lance Norsworthy and C. Lacey Norsworthy; two great-grandchildren, Jeremiah and Noah Jones; and two sisters, Rosie Harris of Shreveport and Jonnie Jones of Bastrop.
Serving as pallbearers will be Van Lee, Jr., George Warren, Gary Brannon, Fred Ratcliff, Charles Sisk, and Charles Bostick.
Honorary pallbearers are Jim Justus and Clyde Collins.
