STANFORD, PAUL M.
Paul M. Stanford, 76, resident of Albuquerque and native of Texas, passed away peacefully just after midnight on Friday, November 18, 2011 in Presbyterian Hospital. Paul is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty Stanford; children Jon Stanford and his wife Meghan, Jena Siedler and her husband Jim; grandchildren Riley Paul Stanford, Maxwell Stanford Siedler, Kate Stanford and Marielle Siedler; sister Arvalee Saul, brother Jess Stanford and many other relatives and friends. Paul was preceded in death by his parents Reverend E. Lee and Flora Stanford, and his sister Dorothy Stanford Tadlock. Paul was born in Van Alstyne, Texas and graduated from Dimmitt Texas High School. He graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor's of Science in Accounting in 1957. Paul served honorably as a Reserve Officer in the United States Air Force as part of the New Mexico Air Guard. Paul began his career at Sandia National Laboratory as the youngest Accountant ever hired at the time. He remained at Sandia for the duration of his 40-year career, advancing through the ranks of General Auditor, Comptroller, and eventually Chief Financial Officer/Vice-President. He was a loyal supporter of the New Mexico Lobos Men's Basketball team and a season ticket holder for 53 years. Paul was an active and zealous supporter of numerous local charities including Meals On Wheels and the United Way. In 2001, he received The United Way's Arthur H. Spiegel Lifetime Achievement Award. Paul was a longtime member of St. John's United Methodist Church, serving as Financial Advisor for many years. A memorial service will be held Monday, November 21, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John's United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Paul's honor to University of New Mexico Cancer Center or Presbyterian Hospital Cancer Center. Paul will be remembered for his infectious optimism, boundless generosity, unwavering loyalty to family and friends, but most of all, as a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
