Paul E. "Buster" Meyers, 84, passed away Monday, June 29, 2009 in Fort Wayne. He was born May 2, 1925, and was nicknamed "Buster" at birth. He graduated from Arcola High School in 1943, where he played basketball for the Arcola Aces. He was a 4-H member and named "Healthiest Boy" in Allen County. In the late 1950's he was the catcher for the Wayne Candies fast pitch softball team, which won the city title. He was a member of the Arcola Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as treasurer. He was active in fund raising and other volunteer activities and was a member of the Angola VFW and American Legion Post 330, New Haven. Paul was a WWII veteran of the Army Air Corp. He was a member of the 2nd Air division, 328 Bomb Squadron, 93rd Bomb Group. He was a waist gunner on a B-24 Liberator and from his base in Norwich England, he completed 35 missions over Germany. He was honorably discharged on October 18, 1945 and later joined the 122nd Tactical Fighter Wing of the Fort Wayne Air National Guard and served in the Korean conflict. After serving his country he was employed by the International Harvester (IH), where he became the first Pipefitter/Steamfitter graduate from the IH apprentice program. He later became General Foreman of Pipefitter/Steamfitter Dept. 20. He retired from International Harvester in 1981. For The past 28 years he and his wife Janet have wintered in their Florida home at Jamaica Royale on Siesta Key and summered in Fort Wayne with all their children and grandchildren. He is survived by wife, Janet E. Meyers and seven children, Paul R. (Jane) Meyers Sr. of Fort Wayne; Ruth A. (Glen) Richardson of Fort Wayne; James M. (Deb) Meyers of Fort Wayne; Pamela J. (Harry) Bland of Dothan, Al; Stanley A. (Pam) Bradtmueller of New Haven; Amy M.(Marvin) Jacobowitz of Fort Wayne; Jill M. (Robert) Swygart of Fort Wayne; 20 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren; sister, Vivian Andress of Fort Wayne; brother, Donald E. (Patricia) Meyers of N. Fort Myers, Fl. Service 10 am Thursday at D.O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 E. Dupont Road, with Pastor Stan Temme officiating. Calling 2 to 5 & 7 to 9pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
