Mr. Paul W. Daly, a longtime Melrose resident, died unexpectedly on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, at the age of 75.
Born in Somerville on October 7, 1936, Paul was one of seven children of the late Albert J. Daly, Sr. and Pauline A. (Moran) Daly. He was raised in Somerville, graduated from Westwood High School in Westwood, NJ and attended Salem State College. He was a US Army veteran, serving his country during the Vietnam War. Following his discharge, he worked as a lab technician at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital and the Soldiers Home in Chelsea. He and his wife of over 50 years, Patty, settled in Melrose where they raised a family.
For over 40 years, Paul has owned and operated the longtime Franklin Square Antiques in Melrose. He enjoyed buying and selling all types of furniture and was well known for displaying large wooden Indian statues in front of his store.
Paul was an avid sports fan, enjoyed cooking, crossword puzzles, and spending time with his grandchildren. "Papa" will be lovingly remembered for picking up his grandchildren in his van and taking them to the Pizza Barn in Ossipee, NH. The trips were so beloved, he even drew the affection of "Beau" the dog while waiting in the car.
Paul was the beloved husband of Patricia L. "Patty" (Carter) Daly with whom he shared 53 years of marriage. Cherished father of Pamela L. Fanjoy and her husband Michael of Derry, NH, Penny A. Conway and her husband Jim of Newburyport and the late Paul W. Daly, Jr. Cherished papa of Janelle Fanjoy, James M. Conway, Jr. and Jillian M. Conway. Dear brother of Barbara J. Mikalosky and her husband Danny of Melrose, Keith Daly of Malden and his late wife Karen, Stephen D. Daly of Hartland, VT, Janice L. Megyesy and her husband Jim of West Newbury and the late Albert J. "AB" Daly III. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends will honor and remember Paul's life by gathering for visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Wednesday, November 2 from 4-8 PM and again on Thursday morning where his Funeral Service will be celebrated at 10:00 AM. Interment in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
