Pedro "Pete" A. Negrete June 29, 1948 ~ May 1, 2011 A Funeral Mass to celebrate the life of Pedro "Pete" A. Negrete, 62, of Somerville is set for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Somerville with Father Nock Russell acting as Celebrant. Interment will follow in the Mexican Cemetery in Somerville. A funeral vigil and Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 3rd at Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Somerville and visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Negrete died in Brenham Sunday, May 1, 2011. Known as "Pete" to everyone, he was born June 29, 1948 in Somerville, the son of Anastacio and Soledad (Armenta) Negrete. Pete was constantly serving his community in any way he could; he served as a lector, as a Eucharistic minister, a CCD teacher, served on the Parish Council; was a Festival chairman all for St. Ann's Catholic Church in Somerville. He acted as the Chairman of the Burleson County Democratic Party, he was an Executive Committeeman of Senatorial District 5 for the Democratic Party. He worked as an Account Executive for Mrs. Baird's Bakeries from 1984 until 2004. He served on the Burleson County Historical Commission. He was in charge of the Rio Grande Valley, Corpus Christi, Victoria and Austin. He was the Chairman of the Hispanic Seminarians Conference as well as being a delegate of the Austin Diocese to the National Encuentro in Washington, D.C. He was a graduate of Somerville High School's class of l966 and went on to graduate from Blinn College in 1968. He then graduated from the University of St. Thomas in 1975. Pete did his graduate studies at St. Mary's Seminary in Houston and Assumption Seminary Oblate School of Theology in San Antonio for a Master's Degree in theology for the Catholic Priesthood. He served in parishes in Houston, San Antonio, Cameron, Brenham, and Austin. He also served as a substitute teacher in Caldwell, Austin, Snook, Somerville and San Antonio School Districts. Pete did internships at St. Julia's in Austin, St. Joseph's Cancer Ward in Houston, and Catholic Services for Immigrants in San Antonio. Pete was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Yreneo (Neill) Negrete; and a nephew, Roy Negrete. Survivors include his God-children, Elizabeth Pastrano, Paul Pastrano, Michael Rodriguez, Britney and Alisha Smith; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray and Mary Negrete, Andrew and Dora Negrete, Joe and Carmen Negrete; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Loretta and Robert Soliz, Cecilia and John Baca, Mary and Willie Zepeda; many nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
