Pedro "Pete" A. Papio, Sr., 80, died September 16, 2011, with his family by his side in Antelope, California.
Pete was born in Bayambang, Pangasinan, Philippines on July 3, 1931, and the fifth of thirteen (13) children to Luis and Petra Papio.
Pete is survived by his wife of 46 years, Nelia (Macawile); his children Catheryn Grace (June) Mercado, Michael (Gemma) Papio, Pedro "Jhun" (Katrina) Jr., Edgard (Boua); and his seven grandchildren, Jan Matthew Mercado; Jam Nichole Mercado; Jhun Kendrick Papio; Michael Christopher Papio; Jerard Christian Mercado; Jason Keenan Papio; and Gian Miguel Papio.
Pete was united in marriage with Nelia Macawile in the Philippines on 1963 and he was a devoted and loving husband. They were happily married for 46 years.
In his early years, Pete enlisted in the U.S. Navy, finished his tour of duty and went back to the Philippines to finish his studies. He graduated from Mapua Institute of Technology (MIT) in the Philippines with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil and Sanitary Engineering. He started his Engineering career with the Philippine Government and held several Engineering Management key positions and moved on as the Technical Adviser of Prime Minister Cesar Virata in Government Engineering infrastructure. After working for the Philippine Government, Pete went to Saudi Arabia for 2 years to provide his Engineering services.
He immigrated to the United States in 1986 and worked in Letterman Army Medical Center at Presidio for 4 years until he was transferred at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs for 5 years and retired. Afterwards he worked part time at the Veterans Administration (VA) Hospital in San Francisco for 2 years.
Pete enjoyed a jog or walks in the beach, exercise and play tennis. As a loving husband, father and grandfather, he liked to cook for his wife, children and grandchildren and loved to take his grandchildren to the park. Pete was a true gentleman and religious man.
