Our Lord in heaven called Pedro Gonzalez, Jr. 67, into eternal rest on Thursday, July 23, 2009 in Laredo, Texas. He passed away surrounded by his loving family and friends after a long and courageous battle with his illness. Pedro was a hard working man his entire life; he retired from the Laredo Fire Department after 25 years of steadfast service, El Metro after 15 years, and the National Guard after 20 years. He also proudly defended his country in the Vietnam War during 1969-1971. Several commendations were awarded to him during his lifetime of service. He also volunteered his time and effort to the B.E.S.T. organization. Pedro will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents Pedro and Belia Gonzalez. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years of marriage, Olga Gonzalez; sons Rene (Rachel), Alberto, and Ricardo Gonzalez; only daughter Connie (Cary) Zipprian; 9 grandchildren Jonathan, Gala, Cesar, Jennifer, Shelby, Alberto Jr., Andrew, Pedro Rene, and Randy; and by his only great-grandchild Orlando Cabrera, Jr. He is also survived by his siblings Belia (Margarito †) Briones, and Ernesto Gonzalez of Laredo, Tiburcio Gonzalez of Houston, Adela (Guillermo) Castañeda of McAllen, Rosa (Jesus †) Chapa of Austin, Vicky (Julio) Paredes, Rebecca (Javier) Sanchez, Josie (Arturo) Rodriguez, Rachel (Pablo) Castro, and Olga Lerma all of Oklahoma City, OK; aunt Melida Muñoz; mother-in-law Celia Espinoza; brother-in-law Al (Noemi) Espinoza of Houston; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2009 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels, 719 Loring at Cortez. A Vigil for the deceased will commence at 7 pm. A Chapel Service will be held on Monday morning, July 27, 2009 9 a.m. at Joe Jackson Heights Funeral Chapels. Interment will follow to the Veteran's plot in Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas. Our family wishes to extend our utmost gratitude for the love, support, and care that our father was given by: the Retama South Nursing Home, Lifeline Ambulance Service, Laredo Medical Center, Laredo Fire Department, Laredo Specialty Hospital, Dr. Diego Menchaca & Staff, Dr. Adolfo Garcia, Dr. Cheema, the Dialysis Center, and Ludivina Rodriguez (caregiver).
