Miss Peggy S. Lee of Kansas City died in her home Monday, January 23, 2012, succumbing to various ailments. Born in Hereford, TX, Peggy came to Kansas City with her family while in high school. She was the Betty Crocker Scholarship winner at Raytown South High School in 1965. After high school she returned to Texas briefly to aid in the care of her maternal grandparents. When she came back to Kansas City she was back to stay. She had a long and successful work history ranging from licensed cosmetology in Texas and Missouri, data processing at Children's Mercy Hospital to customer service at Halls Catalog and finally, Hallmark Cards at the time of her death. Peggy had a strong, creative urge which came out in many ways-oil and water color painting, ceramics, rose gardening, cake decorating, flower arranging and amateur interior design. Diversions were reading, watching movies, and enjoying pets. She enjoyed domestic and international travel, reveling in the places she saw and the people she met. But Peggy believed her purpose in life was family. She was a second mama to her three younger siblings and a grandmother figure to her three nephews. The family recently enjoyed the first birth in a new generation, a grandniece who Peggy met and was tickled with. Peggy was never married and had no children. She cared for both parents during their respective final illnesses. She leaves behind a brother and sister, three nephews, a grandniece, and various aunts, uncles and cousins scattered from coast to coast. Donations may be made to the Lung Association or the American Cancer Society. A celebration of life will be held at Peggy's home from 4-7 pm on Thursday, January 26th.
