Pete Momcilovich, 86, passed away on Sunday, September 25 in the Weirton Geriatric Center. Born June 24, 1925 in Dunglen, OH, he was a son of the late George and Mildred Tepovac Momcilovich. He graduated from Weir High School in 1942 and served in the U. S. Navy from 1943 - 1946 aboard the USS Louisville. He joined the Weirton Police Department in 1949 and rose through the ranks to become Captain. He retired from the police department in 1970 and joined Weirton Steel, where he worked in Plant Protection until retiring in 1988. Pete was a member of the Holy Resurrection Serbian Eastern Orthodox church in Steubenville, Ohio. One of his greatest joys was singing in the Petar Krstich choir and the Tsar Lazar male chorus. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, past president of the Serb National Federation Weirton lodge, a 60+ year member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2716, and recently received his 50-year pin from the Weirton Masonic Lodge 171 AF&AM. He enjoyed bowling and golf and following Weir High School Sports. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary (Mutzi) and his sister Sophie Brdar. He is survived by his daughter Marianne and her husband Bill Pierce of Greenville, SC, daughter Marcia and her husband Pete Sternart of Weirton, grandchildren Matthew and Meghan Sternart, sisters Dorothy Milosh of Weirton, Mary Belich of Monaca, PA, and Mildred "Tootsie" Subotich of Milwaukee, WI. Pete's daughters wish to thank the staff at the Weirton Geriatric Center for the special care of their Dad. Visitation will be Tuesday 4-8 PM at the Greco Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street Weirton, WV Pomen Services will be held 7 PM Tuesday. Additional visitation will be 10 AM until time of funeral services at 11 AM Wednesday at the Holy Resurrection Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church 530 N. Fourth Street Steubenville, OH 43952. Interment will follow at the Serbian Cemetery, Weirton, WV with Military services conducted by the American Legion Firing Squad.
