Peter Arild Blichert was born February 22nd, 1920, in Chicago, Illinois to Frederick Arild Blichert and Margaret Nealon, joining two older sisters. He graduated from Loyola Academy in 1938, Northwestern University in 1942, and Northwestern Medical School in 1946, and from 1946 to 1947, he served a medical internship at St. Joseph's Hospital in Chicago, where he met nurse Katherine Dewald of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Peter served as a United States Army medical officer in Yokohama, Japan in 1947-48, and on his return began a three year residency in obstetrics and gynecology at St. Joseph's Hospital, and married Katherine that same year, He entered private practice in Chicago in 1951, and by the time he started a solo practice in Fort Wayne, the family had grown by three daughters and a son. The family were members of St. John the Baptist parish from 1954 to April of 2007, when Peter and Katherine moved to Georgetown Place and became members of St. Charles Borromeo parish. After 37 years of active practice, Dr. Blichert retired in 1988, and began working as a medical consultant for the Medical Protective Company of Fort Wayne. His second and final retirement took place in 1999. He was a member of the American Medical Association and the Fort Wayne Medical Society, a Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, co-founder with Dr. Lewis Knight of the Fort Wayne Gynecological Society, and a member of the Serra Club of Fort Wayne. He is survived by his wife Katherine, children Kristine (Erik) Grabow of Santa Cruz, California, Meg Baldwin of Roanoke, Virginia, Mark Stephen Blichert of Montreal, Quebec, Jane (Joseph) Eckrich of Kalamazoo MI, eleven grandchildren and one great grand daughter. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 AM, February 14, 2012 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with calling one hour prior Fr. Anthony Steinacker officiating. Calling also at D. O. McComb and Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road on Monday, February 13, 2012 2pm to 5pm & 7pm to 9pm with a vigil at 4:45 PM. Burial in Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
