Peter D. Gapper, age 59, of Waxhaw, died unexpectedly at his home from a heart attack on Tuesday evening, March 10, 2009. He is survived by his wife, Jan Gapper of Waxhaw; his son and daughter-in-law, David and Stacy Gapper of Colorado Springs; a daughter, Ashley Gapper of Prescott Valley; a step-son, Michael Hesterberg of Carlsbad; two grandchildren, Stephen Phillips and Audra Gapper of Colorado Springs; his sister and brother-in-law, Madge and Steve Daly of Charlotte; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews in North Carolina and in the Midlands, England.

Those who knew Peter realized quickly his innate ability to fix anything mechanical or electrical, and many enjoyed his gardening talents and know-how. Ever quick to see the humor in a situation, Peter was eager to share a laugh.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Peter's life at a wake in his honor from 4-6 PM, Saturday, March 14, 2009 at his home in Waxhaw, NC. In lieu of flowers and gifts, his family asks that you remember Peter's generosity and give to a charity of your choice. Because he loved the earth and plants and could be found with a shovel in his hand most days, plant a tree or some flower in his honor.

Heritage Funeral Home of Indian Trail is serving the family. Online condolences may be left at www.heritagefuneral.net.
