Phean Mong, 79, of Grinnell died August 9, 2007, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 11, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. Susan Sanning, Grinnell Regional Hospice Chaplain, officiating. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Phean Mong Memorial Fund.

Phean was born April 8, 1928, in Pailin, Cambodia to Mr. and Mrs. Phean Moo. She was raised in the Pailin area. She was married to Brim Mong in 1968 and the couple continued living in Cambodia. They moved to Thailand in 1975 and then to Grinnell in 1979. While in Grinnell she worked for area farmers and at the Cinema Theatre.

Survivors include one step-daughter, Sol Paul Brim of Grinnell; five grandchildren, Chet, Kri, Mira and Pailin Chay, and Emily In; and two nieces and a nephew of Tacoma, Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Brim in 1998; one son, Cham Mong in 1974; and two sisters.
