Philip T. Cohodes, 92, of Iron Mountain, passed away Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers.

Phil was born May 6, 1919 in Iron Mountain, son of the late Mose and Julia (Kaplan) Cohodes. He graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1937 and was a lifelong resident of the area. Phil was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He married Dora Dwoskin on June 14, 1942 and she preceded him in death on April 25, 2010. Phil, along with his brother, Beral, owned and operated M. Cohodes Sons Wholesale Food Distributors for many years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Anshe-Knesseth Israel Synagogue, the Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post 50, Pine Grove Country Club, the Chippewa Club, the Shriners, the Masonic Temple, the Elks Club, the Golden "K" and the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Lions Club where he was a past president, past district governor, and recipient of both the Ralph M. Sheehan Award and the Melvin Jones Award. Phil loved music and sang with the Golden Throats and for the Iron Mountain Community Chorus. He also enjoyed gardening.

He is survived by a son, Jerry Cohodes of Prescott Valley, AZ; a daughter, Marsha Cohodes of Detroit; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Cohodes of Kingsford; three grandchildren, Jamie (Mandy) Cohodes, Jeremy Cohodes and Jasmine Forman; and three great grandchildren, Sophia Lynn Cohodes, Avere Forman and Jada Forman.

In addition to his wife and parents, Phil was also preceded in death by a son, Barry Cohodes and three brothers, Haskell, Beral and Norman Cohodes.

Visitation will be Monday from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home.
Funeral services will follow Monday at 12 noon at the funeral home. Dr. Michael Zevitz will officiate.

Burial will be in Cemetery Park. The Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post 50 will conduct military graveside honors.
