HARRIS, Phylis I. (Fitzpatrick), of Watertown, passed away in the company of her family, on February 25. 2009. She was 75. Always a bit of a rebel, always appreciative of diversity in culture and thought, she brought a spark to all of our lives. She enjoyed and was equally comfortable with people from all walks of life and all parts of the world. She grew up in St. Paul, MN, attended the Summit School there and went on to Radcliffe College, class of 1955. She was married to Harvard Medical School student, William Bush from 1956 to ’67. They had two daughters, Robin & Lisa. She returned to Cambridge and, in 1970, married Charles Ward Harris. They had two sons: Charles, The Younger and Patrick Ingoldsby, and they had been married for over 38 years. She was a waterbug and from her youth through all the stages of her life, the Fitzpatrick cottage on the St Croix River, near Scandia, MN, elicited a particular joy and vitality in her. She celebrated her 50th birthday by jumping 25 ft off a railroad bridge – apparently not for the first time! Over all of her life she benefited from the love, friendship and assistance of her two sisters, Charlotte Brown, of Falmouth, ME, and Sally (Sara) Haynes, of Amherst, MA, and her late “big brother,” Joseph Fitzpatrick, of St. Paul, MN, and their respective families. She is survived by her husband, Charles Harris, of Watertown, MA, her children, Robin Soergel, of Atlantic Beach, FL, Lisa (Elizabeth) Finn, of Alameda, CA, Charles Harris, Yr., of Colorado Springs, CO, and Patrick Harris, of Rochester, NY as well as by her six grandchildren. In an undated note she wrote: “Dear Family, Remember me with smiles and laughter. For that is how I’ll remember you. If you only remember me with tears, then don’t remember me at all. LOVE, Mummy/Phylis”
