DECKER, Phyllis Ann, September 24, 2010, age 77 of White House. Daughter of father James W. Griffin and mother Walcie Elizabeth Griffin. Wife of John W. Decker; mother of John Jr., and Jeffrey Decker. Lived her life as a testimony to loyalty, dedication to family, and a perfect example that God matches mates according to their needs and ability to insure success. Friends knew if she believed in you, no one need say an unkind word of you without her defense, quickly and spirited. Loyal to her Sunday school class, when her family moved from Saundersville to Nashville she returned by bus every week to complete 12 years without missing a Sunday. When her son Johnny would go all the way through school without missing a day, what an influence she was. When the elementary teachers told her that her son Jeff was retarded and could not learn like others, she seized the challenge and worked him hours daily for 3 years with phonic reading programs, and he overcame dyslexia, graduated in the top 10 of his high school class, and is now an avid reader. My needs as a young man were to improve my character and determination. She fit my deficiencies like a glove. Together we graduated college in 3 ½ years, majored in chemistry and biology, and both worked to pay for our education with no debt. Who could ask for more? A life well lived. Visitation will be at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home, White House Sunday from 2-8 pm., funeral service Monday September 27 at 2 pm with Rev. Bob Cook, officiating. Interment White House Memorial Gardens.
